Prithvi Shaw Determined for India Comeback, Says ‘Giving 200% Effort’

Must read

Delhi: Prithvi Shaw has made his intentions clear—his ultimate goal is to return to the Indian national team, and he is leaving no stone unturned in pursuit of that ambition. The Delhi Capitals batter spoke candidly about his renewed focus, discipline, and mindset as he works towards a comeback.

Representing Delhi Capitals in the ongoing Indian Premier League season, Shaw emphasized that his participation in the league is driven by a singular purpose: reclaiming his place in the national side.

“That is why I am playing. There’s no doubt that I have to come back to the Indian team,” Shaw said. “That’s exactly why I’m playing and why I’m working so hard.”

The 26-year-old, once regarded as one of India’s brightest young talents, acknowledged that his approach towards the game has evolved significantly. According to Shaw, the level of effort and commitment he now puts into his training has multiplied compared to earlier phases of his career.

“The amount of effort I used to put in, I put in three times more today. I feel I’m giving not just 100%, but 200% to make that comeback,” he added.

Shaw also spoke about the importance of quality over quantity when it comes to practice. He stressed that there is little value in half-hearted efforts, underlining his belief that players must be fully committed whenever they step onto the field.

“If I’m not feeling good, then I won’t be practising. You don’t get anything by practising at 50%. If you’re on the ground, you give your 100%, or you don’t come to the ground at all,” he said.

The young opener has experienced a rollercoaster journey in recent years, facing fluctuations in form and challenges both on and off the field. However, Shaw appears to have embraced those experiences as part of his growth, choosing reflection and self-awareness over external validation.

“Whatever ups and downs happened, I faced them with respect and a smile,” he noted. “As you grow up, you realise your own mistakes. You don’t need seniors or mentors to tell you what you already know.”

In a statement that reflects maturity, Shaw highlighted the importance of self-realisation and accountability in a professional athlete’s journey. He believes that understanding one’s shortcomings independently is crucial for long-term success.

“It’s better if you understand those things yourself beforehand and then move forward,” he said.

Shaw’s determination comes at a time when competition for places in the Indian team remains intense, particularly in the batting department. With several young and experienced players vying for limited spots, consistent performances in the IPL and domestic cricket will be key to his chances of making a return.

Known for his aggressive stroke play and ability to dominate bowlers in the powerplay, Shaw has already shown glimpses of his talent in the IPL over the years. However, consistency and discipline have often been areas of scrutiny. His latest remarks suggest a shift in mindset, one that could prove crucial in shaping the next phase of his career.

As the IPL season progresses, Shaw will be keen to back his words with performances on the field. A strong showing could not only boost his confidence but also put him back in contention for national selection.

For now, the message from Prithvi Shaw is clear—he is focused, self-aware, and fully committed to earning his place back in the Indian team, no matter the challenges along the way.
